CYA Board of Directors weekend, Vancouver, BC, Canada -- January, 2016
The Classic Yacht Association Board of Director Meetings and Change of Watch Banquet was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, this year. As a legal, non-profit, tax-exempt corporation in the USA, the CYA Board meets once a year (always in mid-January) for its business meetings. The weekend is a very full three or four days of events, meetings, tours, social gatherings, information sharing, banquets, and catching up with friends from faraway places. CYA is comprised of members from the USA, Canada, Germany, Brazil, Australia, England, and the British Virgin Islands .. truly international. The Board of Directors' weekend moves from "fleet" to "fleet" each year and this was Canada's year to host the long weekend.
Below are a very few of the photos from the weekend. There are photos taken by a CYA member who flew in, looking east towards the city, looking west over the islands, and looking straight down at Canoe Cove Marina on Vancouver Island. Then there is our view from our hotel with the evening sun .. the friends I traveled with .. me and my friend Cris from southern California. Everyone stayed on Granville Island in a very nice hotel. Within steps of our hotel was an amazing indoor public market with every kind of food and crafts we could imagine. We visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Museum of Anthropology (my favorite of all the tours), the Vancouver Maritime Museum. We ate at lots of local pubs; we took the local small passenger ferry up and down False Creek. We chuckled at the commercial grain elevators .. and the trucks parked there. We walked the delightful streets of homes and condos in the area and had a fantastically delicious meal at our "change of watch" banquet at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. The CYA members in Canada who arranged the weekend were wonderful to all of us, making sure everyone had transportation and we were all as busy as we wanted to be .. we were made to feel right at home. I drove up with friends from the Seattle/Tacoma area on Thursday; we drove back south to home on Sunday afternoon. This same area of the City of Vancouver is on my list of places to visit again in the near future when I don't have Board of Director business meetings to attend .. there were so many fascinating things to see and do and I didn't have anywhere near enough time during this trip! Thank you Canada!
